The Fisherman Cake
(My back-dated drafted blog but was not published)

I’m surprised with my recent creation. I'm getting better in moulding a character out of fondant. I enjoyed making this cake as I have plenty of time to mould all the requested details – can of coke, fisherman with a fishing rod, mini pond with fishes, a tree, a fisherman’s tool box and other side decorations. Somehow my dad and mum will always be there when I bake. Dad will show me how to mould a fisherman’s toolbox because he likes fishing too. There are times I need someone who can visualise the icons for me. Mum will be there to chit chat with me like how she used to chat with my late grandmother. She will share with me her comments and tips to improve the entire presentation of the cake. She's my inspiration in delivering better quality cakes - she always emphasize that...love her for making sure I progress well.

Designer Cookies

My first design for my designer cookie was little yellow duckling for a new born baby shower party. I took the challenge by creating my own little duckling cookie cutter and the shape ended as good as am using a cookie cutter. It was individually packed for 150 pax. There’s always a first time in everything and I progressed well in designing my next three designs – an icon of my dad for his 61st birthday, high heel shoes for a sweet 16th birthday party and classic wedding cake design for Loong’s wedding. Check out the pictures...

Pink Baby Shower Cake

My recent busy schedule has given me tonnes of excuses to be lazy to share my thoughts on my recent baking portfolios. I guess I simply find it easier to post pictures at Facebook instead of having to crack my brain to think of what to illustrate in this column as part of the explanation to the posted pictures. Anyway, I still enjoy sharing my thoughts through writing. It’s like exchanging love letters with your loved ones. This is how I can explain the details of the following few new creations I made.

The Pink Baby Shower Cake

I wanted to bake and create this cake design for quite some time. In fact I was planning to do it for my cousin’s baby a year and a half ago but again, my ex full time job took up most of my time. I spent the entire night to mould the little details of the baby bib, bottles, socks, little ballerina shoes…what I like most is basically the icon of the sleeping baby girl with a little rabbit toy. It’s the year of rabbit (last year) and this is why I place a toy for the baby.

This is two-tier vanilla sponge cake, layered with chocolate fudge.
